As a self confessed beauty product addict I'm forever on the search for the ultimate lipstick. One that delivers serious pigment, doesn't bleed or get on your teeth and lasts all day (& night) long.
I've yet to find a long wearing lipstick that I really genuinely love. They are either available in so-so colours, are seriously drying or just don't live up to their last-all-day claims.
Maybelline have a range of lipsticks that promise to last a huge 14 hours - the Superstay 14 Hour Lipsticks.
The first thing I noticed whilst shopping was the huge colour selection - there's the Superstay & the newer Megawatt Superstay (20 shades in total I think). Not only that but the colours really stood out. From neon pinks, to bright corals and rich nudes I instantly wanted them all.
Having some serious self-restraint I picked up just two. (Yes two. I know!). One standard
Superstay stay in 'On and On Pink -150' (a shimmery pink) & one Megawatt in 'Burst of Coral - 455' (a neon pink).
Firstly the packaging doesn't set me on fire however for £6.99 I can live with it. The lipsticks themselves look stunning in the tubes. Vibrant colours that really do look as smooth as a baby's bum.
The only way to see if they last 14 hours was to put them to the test. I opted to try the Megawatt in Burst of Coral first. (I apologise in advance for the terrible selfies you're about to witness. All in the name of research!)
It applied beautifully, immediate shock of real solid colour. Liked the fact that it's scented, almost like sugary sweets. It felt a little sticky but not too much. The colour really was outstanding.
After 1 hour:
So far so good. It hadn't budged at all. Still felt a little sticky.
After 2 hours - the colour had started to clump on in the inner part of my lips but rubbing them together soon corrected it. Impressed so far.
After 5 hours:
After 3 hot drinks and lunch the colour was still there but definitely not as bright as when it was first applied.
The colour had stuck to the outside of my lips but had started to wear in the inner part. Started to feel a little dry. I would normally choose to reapply it around now. Still looks okay however.
After 7 hours:
Only a little bit of change from the 5 hour mark. Still hanging on in there but major wear at the inner part of my lips.

After 10 hours:
After more food and a few drinks it was still on my lips. A little more faded and worn but my lips still looked like they've got lipstick on. Okay, the coverage wasn't even and the colour not as neon bright but considering how long it had been it wasn't too bad at all.
After 14 hours:
A huge, huge difference to the start of the day but it's still on there, just.
So, what's my overall opinion? As a neon super bright gorgeous coloured lipstick these really are fabulous. They deliver serious colour.
Do they last 14 hours? Well technically yes.
At the end of 14 hours there was still colour on my lips. Did it look like it did when I first applied it? Not at all.
I think if you reapply every 3 hours or so you will have continuously flawless colour but you can't go all day without retouching if you want to keep an even lip.
For the price, the fact that Maybelline is always on offer in either Boots or Superdrug and the great colour selection these really aren't bad at all however my search for the perfect lipstick continues......
Have you found a seriously long-lasting lipstick you love?
