A little QVC crush

When you say the letters QVC for the majority of people it conjures up the image of old age pensioners buying useless 'household helpers' with their pension money. Teleshopping has a pretty shoddy reputation. When I say I got something from QVC or even that I regularly watch it I often get a shocked/confused/amazed response. So much so that in my defense I decided to write a little about my love for this TV channel.

I love QVC. Seriously utterly *LOVE* it. And i'm not a pensioner. And I don't buy useless gadgets. I'm a beauty product obsessed mum in her 30's. Of course I love going out shopping but QVC offers a little extra, not just the ability to buy stuff sat in your PJs on a rainy Sunday evening.

They have really competitive prices, especially with their 'Today's Special Value' (one product on a 24 hour super price) but that's not just it - they offer really great brands. Like proper well known and loved big brands.
Yes, they sell random clothes and faux diamond jewelry but they also sell much wanted high-end brands that are often only available in department stores. Even better still they offer products that you want, that you *need*, that are UK exclusives - QVC is the only place to buy them. Really. I heard a lot about Tarte and naturally wanted the whole range. The only place in the UK you can buy it is, yes you've guessed it, QVC. You're starting to see why I like it so, right?

So, apart from Tarte what other brands am I talking about? It would probably be quicker to list the cosmetics and beauty brands that they don't sell. Sat from the comfort of your own sofa you can buy products from:

Tried & Tested - Wen Cleansing Conditioner

The curse of QVC strikes again. Around 3 months ago I was watching an hour dedicated to Wen by Chaz Dean. A brand & a man I had never heard of.

After 15 minutes or so of watching I picked up my phone and ordered 'Today's Special Value'.

What did I buy? Well, it was a new hair-washing concept that I was really intrigued to try.

Wen by Chaz Dean is a range of hair products free from chemicals or harsh detergents - the star of the show being a cleansing conditioner. An all in one product to replace your traditional shampoo & conditioner combo. Sulfate-free, it promised to leave my hair shiny & manageable whilst replacing my shampoo, conditioner, treatment, detangler and leave-in conditioner. See why I bought it!?

I purchased a set that contained two large cleansing conditioners, one in Pomegranate & one in Sweet Almond Mint, plus two Re Moist Intensive Hair Treatments in the same 'flavours'. The set was pricey but with QVC's money back guarantee I had nothing to loose. (Unfortunately it seems you cant get the same four piece set at the moment but you can get one of the cleansing conditioners with it's matching treatment for £32).

So what's the product like? The cleansing conditioner is just like, well, a conditioner. You use the product twice - once as the shampoo and the second as the conditioner. It feels very strange indeed - it doesn't lather, it literally feels like you're rubbing conditioner into your roots.

On the first use I was very sceptical to whether or not it would actually get my hair clean. Well, I needn't have worried - my hair was super clean, easy to comb through and it smelt amazing. (Both 'flavours' smell good enough to eat). I left my hair to dry naturally and it was so soft, shiny and remarkably pretty frizz-free. I was hooked!

I've been using both the Pomegranate and Sweet Almond Mint for about 2 and a half months exclusively. The bottles were large so they've lasted a decent amount of time (good job really considering their price). Every now and then I used the Intensive Treatments but my hair has felt so good I didn't really feel the need to.

The cleansing conditioners are really enjoyable to use, you soon get used to having no bubbles when you wash your hair. I found that a good tip was to use, & leave in, a tiny tiny amount of the cleansing conditioner on the ends of my hair whilst it was still soaking wet to really seal in the moisture.

Now, here's the thing. Both of my bottles are almost empty but I haven't rushed online to repurchase them. Probably because of the price if I'm honest. One 480ml bottle on it's own is £27 (plus P&P). Yup, that's super expensive. I loved the product. I enjoyed using it & got great results but the fact that I haven't bought it again says a lot - it's great but not life changing! Perhaps if it were a touch cheaper I'd get it again.

Tried & Tested - Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil

I've always been a little scared of using an oil as a moisturiser on my face. Would it cause me to break out? Would it make my combination skin cross over to the over-greasy category? Would my face resemble a slippery slug? All of these questions had stopped me from trying any oils in the past. 

That was until I was watching QVC one afternoon. I'm a huge QVC fan, don't judge me. (There'll be more on my QVC crush at a later date). There was a beauty hour (yessss!) featuring a UK exclusive range (double yessss!). 

That range was the much hyped Tarte. QVC is the only place in the UK that you can purchase their products right now. (Beginning to see why I love this channel?).

I'd heard a lot about their Maracuja Oil over the Internet & YouTube worlds. I was very intrigued and then seeing it on the telly I decided to go for it. (QVC also offers a 30 day money back guarantee even if you've used a product so there was nothing to loose!). 

That was over 4 months ago so I've given the oil a pretty decent trial - here's what I think! 

The Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil is a little over £35 for 50ml. My immediate reaction was that it is fairly expensive. However I have used it generously every single night (apart from about 4) and I'm not even a third of the way through the bottle. Considering that means I'll get roughly a YEARS worth of use £35 is actually cheap. Really blimin' cheap. (I haven't got a tiny pea head either). 

The packing is lovely. I keep mine in its bamboo box to keep the sun's pesky rays well away. The bottle itself is glass with a dropper dispenser. You only need 2-3 drops per use and the dropper is easy to control.

I use mine in the evenings only as directed on the bottle. To use it you drop the clear oil onto your fingertips and simply press it into your skin. It's lightweight, absorbs pretty quickly and doesn't leave my skin oily or greasy, just beautifully moisturised and feeling really comfortable. 

It promised to give me plump, brighter skin and a more even skin tone - has it? Well I have to say yes! My completion is actually looking pretty decent. I used to get the odd dry patch, sometimes my cheeks would feel a little dehydrated but they don't now. 

When I wake up my skin does look like I've had a good nights sleep (I've got a newborn so a good nights sleep is a distant memory right now). 

I don't know if this is down to the magic maracuja, I'd like to think it is, but now I barely break out - I can seriously count on one hand the amount of spots I've had in 4 months. Major result as I'd always get a few hormonal ones here and there. 

In conclusion I love this product. I enjoy using it and would miss it if I no longer had it - no slug face in sight. It's perfect for my 35 year old skin and I will absolutely repurchase when it eventually runs out! 

I am definitely excited to try more Tarte products in the future.
